Oyokal was a terrestrial agricultural astronomical object located in the territory of the Unknown Regions' Chiss Ascendancy nation. It was the homeworld of Chiss Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro "Lakinda," who came from a poor family that was a part of a farming community there. On Oyokal, an old Chiss told her: "When you see the saddlebull is about to throw you, jump off."[1]
She later joined the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet and the Ascendancy's Xodlak family.[1] In 18 BBY,[2] Lakinda feared that she would be returned to her old family after having failed to claim a fake nyix metal mine owned by the Agbui species for the Xodlak, and she instead joined the Irizi ruling family.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Oyokal was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, the second volume in Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.[1] The astronomical object was depicted on a map provided by publisher Del Rey as a bonus for preordering the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final volume in the Ascendancy Trilogy.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Oyokal was introduced in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry.[4]
