- "And did you complete the Padawan birthday ritual? Only be remembering the past are we able to learn from the present."
- ―Master Qui-Gon Jinn to his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Padwan birthday ritual was accomplished on their thirteenth birthday by the Padawans of the Jedi Order, at the time of the Galactic Republic. This birthday was not marked by a celebration; the apprentices were committed to observe a quiet time for reflection, consulting on both good and bad memories and meditating on them. As part of the tradition, the Padawan would also receive a meaningful present from their Jedi Master after they had fulfilled the ritual.[1] In 44 BBY,[2] following the completion of his birthday ritual, Obi-Wan Kenobi was offered a rare Force-sensitive stone from the homeworld of his Master Qui-Gon Jinn.[1]
