"'Parachute.' Not many people use 'em anymore, now that they have hover-ejectors et cetera. But you know I'm an old-fashioned kinda guy."
―Leox Gyasi[2]

Parachutes were safety devices used to escape stricken aircraft or spacecraft[1] within atmosphere. They consisted of fabric sails worn compressed inside of backpacks until they were needed.[2]

During the High Republic Era, when the space station Starlight Beacon was destroyed, pilot Leox Gyasi donned a parachute before heading outside of the station after it had entered the atmosphere of the planet Eiram to manually open the hangar bay doors to allow trapped starships to escape. Gyasi was blown off of the station after successfully opening the doors, leading his friends Affie Hollow and Geode to briefly assume him dead. However, he successfully landed on Eiram with his parachute and reunited with them.[2]

A-wing pilots under Bail Organa's resistance movement were equipped with parachutes, which one pilot employed while ejecting from their craft during the Raada Uprising.[3]

The Imperial Academy located on the planet Carida used parachutes in training exercises, with Imperial cadet Han Solo participating in one.[1] Imperial TIE fighter ejector seats were equipped with a parachute.[4]

The scavenger Rey had a sandboard made of a Mon Calamari escape pod that was lined with the fabric of a parachute.[5]
