A parang was a heavy-bladed weapon, sometimes made of glass, which was used by various sects of ancient Sith. Its main advantage was that it could be thrown at an enemy and returned to the thrower, similar to a boomerang.
Originally, the curved blade of the parang was used as a gardening tool to cut away undergrowth, but it later became used as a weapon among the Sith Order. Originally, the weapon was used by the ancient Sith Purebloods.
It was reminiscent of the weapons carried by the Royale Macheteros of the Kashi Mer Dynasty.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The parang was first named in Fate of the Jedi: Omen, the second of nine novels in the Fate of the Jedi series, wherein the weapons were called "glass parangs." However, in the following novel, Fate of the Jedi: Abyss, some of the parangs used by members of the Tribe were not made of glass. A parang was first pictured in the short story "First Blood."
