Pearl Hat was a nickname for Naboo Palace Guards such as Pars Varqom. Varqom worked as a Palace Guard for 18 years; during the reigns of seven monarchs, from King Ars Veruna through Queen Mairayni.

Jason Fry, writer of The Essential Guide to Warfare, eventually cut any mentioning of Pearl Hat in the final product. The title was later made canonical in the StarWars.com blog post Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare: Author's Cut, Part 6 — Showdown at Naboo.
