The Pelemaxians were a social group[3] that originated in[2] the Colonies' Pelemax system.[1] Generations before the Galactic Civil War, the Pelemaxians tamed the jungle creatures known as the tentacle birds of Pelemax as war mounts, capitalizing on their savage call, which could scare and confuse enemy soldiers. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Pelemaxians had begun using the birds as caravan animals as well as a mode of personal transportation. The Pelemaxians also sold the tentacle birds of Pelemax offworld; such exports made up a major part of the local economy.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The Pelemaxians were introduced in Creatures of the Galaxy, a 1994 sourcebook published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The respective entry was written by Rick D. Stuart based on an illustration of a tentacle bird of Pelemax by David Plunkett.[3]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Pelemaxians in relation to the Pelemax system.
