"We've adopted a code name for these starships: Penumbra Omen. Avoid them at all costs, my friends. The leader of the so-called Penumbra Omen only briefly identified itself as the "OT-Violator". Their starships seem to be like that of a Hutt smuggler's starcraft, although I certainly doubt any Hutt would be flying any of those ships, at least not like that. Their personality almost seemed... mechanical."
Captain Silverline[1]

Penumbra Omen was the code-name of a mysterious and hostile force of starships present in the Naboo system during the Galactic Civil War.[2] Around the time of the Battle of Yavin, an unit of the Imperial Navy commanded by Captain Silverline, Imperial Authoritarian, was ambushed in the Area D-512 of the Naboo system and suffered heavy casualties. Captain Silverline reported that these assailants, probably droids, piloted starships similar to those used by Hutt smugglers and indicated that their leader identified itself as the OT-Violator.[1] The Empire then considered the so-called Penumbra Omen as incredibly dangerous and prohibited all travel in the Area D-512, renamed Penumbra Omen Quadrant.[2] Captain Silverline's emergency report was later intercepted by Fghai'g Windrunner, a pilot of the Royal Naboo Security Forces who considered to explore the Penumbra Omen quadrant.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Penumbra Omen was mentioned in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4] Penumbra Omen starfighters were cut from the expansion pack Jump to Lightspeed on October 27, 2004.[5]
