Phase 3 Carbon Plating was a defense related upgrade for Podracers. The carbonized plating allowed Podracers to withstand punishment from other pilots or rough terrain better than stock parts or upgrades of inferior quality, such as the T100 Dual Power Absorber. The upgrade's price ranged to 950 truguts or more.[3] During the 24 BBY[1] Podracing season, the Toydarian junk dealer Watto sold this upgrade to Podracer pilots from his garage.[3] The Phase 3 Carbon Plating upgrade was outclassed by the Phase 5 Carbon Plating upgrade.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Phase 3 Carbon Plating was first mentioned in the 2002 video game Star Wars: Racer Revenge, and was available as a Podracer upgrade that players could purchase. The carbon plating was not clearly visible to the player.[2] The upgrade was mentioned again in the game's strategy guide.[3]
