The Phobis Core was one of the three Phobis devices, Sith artifacts that granted the power to manipulate fear. The three Phobis devices came into the possession of the Sith Emperor of the Sith Empire, who gathered a group of six Sith Lords to study the devices. The Phobis Core and the other devices remained in the possession of the six Sith, who became known as the Dread Masters on account of the powers they gained during their research; however, the Emperor eventually confiscated the Core and sealed it within the Dark Temple on the planet Dromund Kaas along with a number of other artifacts.[1]

The Phobis Core was first mentioned in the Codex entry for the Phobis devices in the 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic; however, the entry was cut before the final release, leaving the entry's canon status uncertain. The Phobis devices have been referenced several times in later Codex entries on the Dread Masters, but the Core has never been specifically identified in an implemented Codex entry.
