Pikka Adren was a human female contractor and the wife of Joss Adren, who she worked alongside during the construction of the Starlight Beacon space station. During the Great Hyperspace Disaster, she and her husband volunteered to help the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order in their efforts to save the Hetzal system from destruction.
Biography[]
Construction of the Starlight Beacon[]
Pikka Adren and her husband Joss Adren were contractors active during the High Republic Era. In the months leading up to the dedication of the space station Starlight Beacon, Pikka and Joss were hired to assist with the completion of Starlight Beacon's construction as project managers.[2]
After finishing their work, Pikka planned a vacation for the couple. They packed up their quarters and prepared to leave the station. Checking her datapad, Pikka noticed a power anomaly on the station and brought it to her husband's attention. He agreed to check it out with her. On the way, they ran into a group of dignitaries led by Shai Tennem who was the station administrator. Pikka found the man very exacting and knew he would not be happy with the power abnormality. Tennem invited the Adrens to join them on the tour, and Pikka was afraid she would have to reveal the problem in front of the whole group. Before she could speak, Jedi Knight Nib Assek intervened and suggested that the Adrens should be allowed to enjoy their remaining free time on the station. Pikka wondered if the Jedi had sensed her agitation but quickly continued on her journey to the location of the power anomaly. She arrived at Conduit 398-GX14 and discovered that a resistor hub had burned out and was causing a feedback loop. Joss told her about a fix but was unable to fit his arm into the space to reach the wires. Pikka put her arm into the conduit and followed Joss' instruction to resolve the issue. They went to the hangar and boarded the Third Horizon for the journey to Coruscant. During the trip, she wrote up an incident report about the wiring and sent it to Tennem. Admiral Pevel Kronara came on the intercom and informed the ship that there was a system-wide mass casualty event taking place in the Hetzal system and asked for volunteers to assist in rescue efforts. Pikka and her husband quickly offered to help.[2]
The Great Hyperspace Disaster[]
The two volunteered to help the combined Galactic Republic and Jedi Order effort to rescue the Hetzal system[2] from debris of the Great Hyperspace Disaster. Her husband piloted the Republic Longbeam cruiser Aurora III above the Fruited Moon of Hetzal Prime, and Pikka served as his co-pilot.[1]
After the Battle of Kur[]
After the Battle of Kur, Pikka and her husband returned to Starlight Beacon. They were summoned to a debriefing led by Chancellor Soh to discuss the Adrens' actions during the battle. The group of dignitaries were impressed by Joss' piloting and wanted to know if the tactics he performed during the fight could be adopted for wide-spread use. Admiral Kronara played a hologram of the battle, which caused great anxiety in Pikka as she remembered the stress of the battle. After reviewing the replay of the battle, Kronara questioned the Adrens to see why they alone among the non-Jedi pilots had been able to effectively react to the Nihil ship's micro-jumps during combat. Joss tried to suggest that it was either the Force or his innate piloting skills but the council didn't believe him. Pikka allowed him to reveal the fact that she had sliced the security systems for the Longbeam's operational code.[2]
This allowed Joss to have the thrusters of the ship uncoupled from their computer controls. The ability to use them independently greatly increased the maneuverability of the ship. The Adrens were admonished by RDC officials who stated the they could have damaged the ship but Pikka responded that she was confident in his piloting skills. The Adrens were dismissed and returned to their quarters on the Starlight Beacon.[2]
Pikka decided to get something to eat with her husband. Before they could leave, Admiral Kronara came to their door and asked if he could come in. The officer explained that the Republic was not convinced that the Nihil threat was gone and the RDC was putting together a special task force to hunt them down. He requested the Adrens join the group. To Joss' surprise, his wife declined stating they had a vacation planned to Amfar. She agreed to join the task force after a two week holiday.[2]
The Fall of Starlight Beacon[]
Later, Pikka returned to Starlight Beacon with her husband after an accident damaged the hyperdrive on their skiff. She met Stellan Gios in the docking bay and told him that she preferred to stay on Starlight Beacon until the Nihil threat had been dealt with. She and her husband joined a group of travelers who were bartering for parts and supplies. She asked if anyone knew how to fuse a new coupling, and Affie Hollow responded. Hollow and the Adrens agreed to cooperate. Pikka enjoyed a moment with Hollow's crewmate Geode which made her husband jealous.[6]
Pikka ran into Hollow in the docking bay and told her that Koley Linn had been snooping around the Vessel. She offered to assist Hollow if her crewmates weren't around. Pikka sensed that something was upsetting Hollow who told her about the situation on the Starlight Beacon. Pikka returned to her ship and continued with repairs. She got more worried as the stranded people on the station grew restless and wanted to leave. She also felt some guilt as she and her husband had worked on the docking bay door installation. Hollow assured her that she wasn't responsible for the failure of the doors.[6]
The Jedi aboard the station requested assistance from non-Force users to seal off parts of Starlight Beacon and Pikka volunteered. As Bell Zettifar explained the process, Adren sarcastically questioned if the padawan realized the assembled group were all experienced spacers. As the team worked to seal off the station, Zettifar came up with a plan to use ships already in the cargo bay to escape the failing station. Arden asked if people would be forced to leave or if they could stay behind with their ships in hopes of escaping later. While preparing the cargo bay for decompression, Adren and others investigated the ships. Several were listed as carrying rathtars and Adren said they could be ejected into space with no problems. The animals were accidentally released and one chased down Adren. She managed to kill it with her blaster with the assistance of Zettifar. She escaped the cargo hold and returned to her husband.[6]
Hollow came up with a plan to salvage power cores from abandoned ships to power escape pods. Adren assisted her with wiring the power cores so they could launch the pods. When they were done, she tried to convince Hollow to abandon the station but she refused to leave her ship. Pikka and Joss boarded an escape pod and landed on Eiram. They later met up with the crew of the Vessel and agreed to help repair the ship in exchange for passage off Eiram.[6]
