A Pirate Base located east of the city of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine was in operation during the time of the Galactic Civil War. Occupied by a band of criminals known as the Sand Slum Pirates and their pirate leader, the base consisted of several underground levels, with its interior resembling the design of Imperial Tactical Centers. Indeed, the interior of the base consisted of at least a couple banners emblazoned with the crest of the Galactic Empire, indicating that the base was once under the control of Imperial forces. Sometime following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, a spacer pinned down and attacked the pirate leader at the bottom-most level of the base. However, the spacer spared the pirate's life after he surrendered. For the spacer's part in diffusing tensions between the pirates and the local moisture farmers, the spacer was awarded with the Mark of Honor.[1]

The Pirate Base was a location in the 2003 massively multiplayer online-role playing game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, prior to the game's closure on December 15, 2011.
