Planetary science was one of the science departments available on some Imperial Star Destroyers. It was chiefly concerned with investigating the physical properties of planets and their orbits. Eleven years before the Battle of Yavin, The Star Destroyer Ultimatum's planetary science department studied the moon Cynda, orbiting the planet Gorse to determine more efficient methods of mining the mineral thorilide.[1]
