- "Information is like plasma; it can bind, or it can burn."
- ―Yuuzhan Vong priest
Plasma was one of the five fundamental states of matter, the other four being solid, liquid, gas and supercritical fluid. Made of a loose mixture of positive and negative charged particles, plasma was the most abundant form of matter in the galaxy. It was naturally produced in stars, and a rarefied form of it filled the intergalactic regions. It was created when a gas got ionized at high temperature, energized or subjected to a strong electromagnetic field.[2]
The planet Naboo was known to export plasma as early as the reign of King Ars Veruna. When used in blasters, it was more effective against droids and shields, while the more common concentrated particle beams were more effective against living beings.
The Nightsisters of Dathomir used energy bows that shot bolts of plasma.
BlasTech DC-model blasters from the Clone Wars fired blue, plasma-based rounds, using the ionic charge of plasma very efficiently against droids.
The Zann Consortium used several ships and vehicles equipped with plasma cannons designed to shoot two shots spiraling around each other and inflict massive damage.
Yuuzhan Vong ships shot balls of plasma.
Blasters and Disruptors shoot magnetically contained plasma.
In the mines on Oovo IV a tool called the Gasifier turned rock into plasma.
During the Old Republic, weapons dealing with plasma was known as plasmatech or pyrotech and was considered a discipline.[3]
Plasma fires could burn for years. After a mining accident at the Mesa 291 lidium mine on Bothawui, plasma fires raged for at least two generations below the surface.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
Although previous sources had established the lightsaber's blade as being made of pure energy,[5][6][7] it was on one occasion described as being made from plasma.[8]
