Publisher's summary[]

CONTINUING THE UNSEEN EVENTS OF THE FORCE AWAKENS! As Starkiller Base targets the Resistance for elimination, it's up to Poe Dameron and Black Squadron to mount a frontal assault and take the weapon offline…as long as their friends on the ground can get the shields down![1]

Plot summary[]

THE AWAKENING
Part III
The Resistance has barely escaped total
destruction at the hands of the evil First Order,
their survival ensured by the ultimate sacrifice
made by many brave heroes — including the
legendary Luke Skywalker.

Now, the remnants of General Leia Organa's
band of rebels flee through hyperspace
aboard the Millennium Falcon, mourning
their losses and seeking refuge.

In this rare moment of peace, Poe Dameron,
Finn, Rey, and the other survivors reflect upon
the journey that brought them to this point....

Continuity[]

"Poe's Plan"[3] and The Last Jedi: Expanded Edition depict Poe Dameron getting the idea and permission to engage the First Order dreadnaught head-on with his X-wing only upon its arrival in the orbit of D'Qar, while Poe is standing in the bridge of the Raddus with General Leia Organa and Admiral Gial Ackbar.[4] The comic, however, depicts Poe getting the idea and permission from Leia to engage the First Order fleet much earlier, even before its arrival, while he is standing in the operations room on D'Qar with Black Squadron and the rest of the Resistance command. Star Wars: Timelines sides with the comic's version of events. Due to its use in Timelines[5] and the importance of Poe Dameron 28 in the grander scale of Star Wars canon, as it sets up the rest of the Poe Dameron comic series, which, in turn, sets up the novel Resistance Reborn,[6] Wookieepedia assumes Poe Dameron 28's depiction of events take canonical priority.
