A point-defense cannon was a kind of starship emplacement, typically laser cannons, blaster cannons or light ion cannons,[1] that were used to defend large capital starships against smaller starfighters.[2] Point-defense cannons were also used to defend against missiles.[3] Adumari Meteor-class Aerial Forts had their laser cannons optimized for shooting down incoming missiles in this way.[4]
Vindicator-class heavy cruisers were armed with point-defense laser cannons and point-defense light ion cannons.[2]
