"You need protatos? I got sacks full of 'em. Full of protein and delicious when fried. There are no CONS to buying PROtatos!"
―A bounty hunter in Coruscant's Uscru District[1]

Protatos were a type of food available in the galaxy. They were high in protein and could be fried.[1] In 22 BBY,[2] a bounty hunter on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant advertised protatos she was selling in a night market in the planet's Uscru District. The vendor emphasized their high protein content and asserted that they would taste terrific when fried. While advertising her protatos, she was overheard by Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his astromech droid R4-P17, who were in the area while pursuing bounty hunter Zam Wesell.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

In the current Star Wars canon, protatos were first mentioned in the 2022 non-canon video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, published by TT Games. The player can first hear the bounty hunter's advertisement of protatos when playing as Kenobi and R4-P17 during the story campaign for the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, but the dialogue can be heard at any point while near the night market in the Uscru District.[1]

Protatos originated within the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were first mentioned in the 2002 novel The New Jedi Order: Traitor, written by Matthew Stover as the thirteenth volume in the series Star Wars: The New Jedi Order.[3] They went on to appear in the 2003 massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, published by Sony Online Entertainment.[4]
