Prototype vibroblades were used by specially trained Sith commandos aboard Dark Lord of the Sith Revan's flagship during[3] his capture by the Jedi in 3957 BBY,[4] during the Jedi Civil War between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. Later,[1] a commander[2] serving in the Sith military used a prototype vibroblade during the attack on the Republic Hammerhead-class cruiser Endar Spire above the Outer Rim planet Taris[1] in 3956 BBY.[5] The commander was killed by Revan, by then an amnesiac and possessing the memories of a Republic soldier, during his escape from the cruiser.[1]
The prototype vibroblade was a cheap Cortosis-weave blade, costing eighty credits, and made to be adaptable and upgradeable as funds became available to the user. The weapon was capable of withstanding a lightsaber and could be upgraded with a vibration cell, an energy projector, and a coating of durasteel bonding alloy.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The prototype vibroblade first appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, developed by BioWare. The weapon is found on the remains of a Sith commander who is killed in an unavoidable encounter on the Endar Spire. The commander by default uses a blaster rifle, but if the player enters melee range, they will switch to the prototype vibroblade.[1]
