Purghom Musical Performance Hall, sometimes referred to as "Purghom hall" or simply "Purghom," was a famous concert hall in the Bith capital city of Weogar on the planet Clak'dor VII. It was the venue of choice for a two-week-long, sold-out tour featuring the percussion group Shluur, and was used by the group's Wookiee arranger, Wurokkk, as a musical experiment that ended in disaster for the Bith audience.

Description

The Purghom Musical Performance Hall, sometimes called "Purghom hall" or "Purghom," was a concert hall located in the capital city of Weogar on the planet Clak'dor VII, homeworld of the Bith species. It was a gigantic circular auditorium with a massive golden chandelier mounted at the center of the ceiling as its defining aspect.[1]

History

Orchestras, bands, and other musical groups from cities across Clak'dor VII played at the famous concert hall, and occasionally off-planet acts were allowed to perform at the venue. The Bith had an unmatched love for music, and thus no style or instrument was too "common" for the hall; however, all acts had to be of utmost excellence in order to be permitted a performance on its stage. One such performance included a Gamorrean singer and at least two Bith musicians. The diverse percussion group Shluur visited the concert hall during a tour that consisted of two weeks' worth of sold-out performances. These concerts were used as an experiment for the male Wookiee Wurokkk, one of the group's arrangers. Wurokkk composed a piece designed to subliminally bring out aggressive behavior in Bith based on vibrations and brainwave patterns.[1]

The ensuing chaos that resulted from the experiment led to a government investigation that eventually brought Wurokkk's plans to light. When confronted, the Wookiee was content with the success of his experiment but was nevertheless escorted off-planet. Wurokkk may have had a sonic-based surprise awaiting his escorts.[1]

Behind the scenes

Purghom Musical Performance Hall was introduced in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game sourcebook Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds, released in 2004 by Wizards of the Coast and written by Craig R. Carey, Jason Fry, Jeff Quick, and Daniel Wallace. The location was used in an adventure seed titled "Beat of a Different Drum."[1]
