"What the blazes? They're firing at us!"
"That's what Mandalorians do, dear."
―Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo, as they are attacked by Mandalorians outside the Krabbis Inn[1]

The R-20 scatterblaster was a blaster model created by the arms manufacturer BlasTech Industries. The blaster could be wielded with one hand and could also fire a large volley of tiny bolts all at once. That function made it particularly useful against Jedi, who were unable to deflect so many little bolts simultaneously with a lightsaber. The R-20 scatterblaster was used by Mandalorian Supercommandos around 43 ABY.

Description[]

The R-20 scatterblaster was a relatively small blaster that could be held and fired with just one hand. When triggered, it discharged a rapid barrage of very small blaster bolts. The model of blaster was known to be particularly useful for combat against Jedi opponents, as they were unable to deflect the salvo of tiny bolts with a lightsaber all at once.[1]

History[]

Sometime prior to 43.5 ABY,[source?] BlasTech Industries,[1] a prominent arms manufacturer,[2] designed and released the R-20 scatterblaster. The scatterblaster was used by Mandalorian warriors, specifically Supercommandos. In 43.5 ABY, when Jedi Knights Leia Organa Solo, Jaden Korr, Tekli, and Avinoam Arelis, along with Organa Solo's husband, Han Solo, attempted to evacuate three psychotic Jedi Knights from the New Jedi Temple on Coruscant, a group of Mandalorian Supercommandos hired by Galactic Federation of Free Alliances Chief of State Natasi Daala attacked them outside of the Krabbis Inn, a hostel near the Jedi Temple. One of the Supercommandos, armed with an R-20 scatterblaster, opened fire on Organa Solo, forcing her to retreat behind a nearby bridge. The Mandalorians were eventually defeated, however, and the psychotic Jedi were successfully evacuated from the Temple.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The R-20 scatterblaster was created by established Star Wars author Troy Denning for his first installment—and the third novel overall—in the nine-part Fate of the Jedi series, Fate of the Jedi: Abyss, released August 18, 2009.
