R2-Q2 was an R2-series astromech droid manufactured by Industrial Automaton that was attached to the 501st Legion of the Galactic Empire. During the Galactic Civil War, it was part of the team that boarded the Tantive IV to root out Rebel spies. Decades later, R2-Q2 was a member of the Resistance.
Biography[]
R2-Q2 was an R2-series astromech droid[2] that was manufactured by Industrial Automaton.[1] During the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic,[4] the astromech droid served the Empire.[1] In 0 BBY,[6] it was stationed on board the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer[4] Devastator[7] when the starship chased the rebel CR90 corvette[4] Tantive IV from the Scarif system to the Tatoo system following the Battle of Scarif.[7]

R2-Q2 was part of the team that boarded the Tantive IV.
After the Star Destroyer disabled the corvette,[7] R2-Q2 was part of the team that boarded the rebel ship,[1] which they suspected was carrying the plans for the Death Star superweapon,[4] which had been stolen at Scarif.[7] R2-Q2 was tasked with seeking out evidence of the ship's ties to the Rebellion[1] and rolled down one of the corvette's corridors alongside fellow Imperial astromech R4-M9 and several Imperial stormtroopers escorting a group of captive rebel combatants. The crew of the Tantive IV were ultimately arrested as rebels, but the Empire failed to retrieve the Death Star plans.[4]
By 34 ABY,[8] R2-Q2 no longer served the Empire,[5] which had fallen in 5 ABY,[9] and instead served as a member of the Resistance, a successor of the Rebel Alliance who opposed the First Order, a successor state of the Empire. R2-Q2 was stationed at the Resistance base on the planet D'Qar and, after the Resistance victory at the Battle of Starkiller Base, R2-Q2 was part of the crowd that gathered to watch the Millennium Falcon, a YT-1300 light freighter, leave to seek out the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.[5] Shortly after the Falcon departed, the base on D'Qar was evacuated and then destroyed.[10]
Characteristics[]
R2-Q2 had black, gray, and white plating and a black sensor.[4] It stood 0.96 meters (3ft, 2in) tall.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
R2-Q2 first appeared in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[4] The seventy-ninth issue of Star Wars: Build Your Own R2-D2 published by De Agostini in August of 2018[11] erroneously proclaimed that R2-Q2 was Biggs Darklighter's astromech at the Battle of Yavin.[12]
