R4-G9 was an astromech droid owned by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi replaced the droid R4-P17 with this droid when R4-P17 was destroyed by buzz droids in the Battle of Coruscant and traveled with it to Utapau for the Battle of Utapau. Following an assassination attempt by his own clone troopers resulting from Order 66, Kenobi escaped the planet in a stolen Separatist vessel, leaving R4-G9 behind.[2]
Behind the scenes
In July 2003, members of Hyperspace were given the opportunity to vote for the color and appearance of this droid. Most votes went to the metallic bronze dome with copper panels.[source?]
