"Arfour, be careful! You have a—"
―Obi-Wan Kenobi warns R4 just before her destruction[src]

R4-P17, nicknamed Arfour, was a feminine R4-P astromech droid that was assigned to Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, prior to and throughout the Clone Wars. She was destroyed by a buzz droid during the Battle of Coruscant.

R4-P17 was manufactured by Industrial Automaton sometime prior to the Clone Wars.[3] When an assassination attempt on Naboo senator Padmé Amidala occurred on Coruscant, R4 accompanied Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to Kamino and Geonosis to reveal the plot.[4]

During the final days of the Clone Wars, R4 joined Obi-Wan Kenobi once again aboard his Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor in a battle above Coruscant. During the battle, Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker approached Separatist General Grievous' flagship, the Invisible Hand, in an attempt to rescue the kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. As the two Jedi neared the flagship they encountered attacks from Pistoeka sabotage droids; during the attack, R4's dome was torn apart by a buzz droid, ending her career.[2]

She was later replaced by R4-G9 as Kenobi's companion droid during his travel to the planet Utapau.[2]

Personality and traitsEdit

R4 had a female personality and showed bravery against Separatists.[3]

Skills and abilitiesEdit

"Arfour, prepare to jettison spare part canisters."
―Obi-Wan Kenobi to R4-P17[src]

As a product of Industrial Automaton, R4 was designed to qualify as hyperspace navigator for calculating lightspeed jumps and an engineer for repair and maintenance.[3]

R4 protects Kenobi's starfighter from Jawas.

R4 had an electro-shock prod, which she used once to protect Kenobi's Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor from Jawas during a visit to Jabba's Palace.[7]

Behind the scenesEdit

R4-P17 first appeared in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, a film released in 2002.[4] Despite being an R4 series astromech, she possessed the dome-shaped head of a R2 or R3 unit rather than the cone shaped one of most R4s.
