The RSF Sword was a single-handed, bladed melee weapon commonly used by fencers during the time of the Galactic Civil War. As indicated by its name, the sword was affiliated with the Royal Security Forces of Naboo, otherwise known as the RSF. Despite being decorated with insignias of the Galactic Empire, the weapon was actually most often carried by members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. A B1-Series battle droid named Colonel OR-5 also possessed a variation of the weapon known as "OR-5's Sword."

RSF Swords were single-handed, bladed melee weapons. The weapon was composed of units of steel and polymer. The sword also comprised of a melee weapon core. The sword was decorated with red insignias of the Galactic Empire on the pommel and cross guard.[1]

The weapon saw use during the time of the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and Alliance to Restore the Republic, following the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. Commonly used by fencers, the weapon was affiliated with the Royal Security Forces of Naboo, otherwise known as the RSF. Despite being decorated with insignias of the Galactic Empire,[1] the weapon was actually most often carried by members of the Rebel Alliance.[2] Schematics of the weapon were also available to independent weaponsmiths and munitions traders.[1] A B1-Series battle droid named Colonel OR-5 possessed a variation of the weapon known as "OR-5's Sword," while occupying a decrepit Droid Factory on Mustafar.[3]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

A group of adventuring spacers, attempting to shut down the Droid Factory, battled OR-5 and destroyed him. OR-5's Sword fell into the possession of one member of the group.[3] OR-5 possessed at least one other sword that was left behind and abandoned in a corner of the cantina in Nym's Stronghold on the planet Lok. The weapon was eventually discovered and collected by a spacer passing through the cantina.[1]

The RSF Sword was included as a one-handed melee weapon in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[1][4] The weapon was added to the game at some point during the implementation of the Combat Upgrade, which was introduced on April 27, 2005.[1][5] After being included in the game, the weapon could be crafted by weaponsmiths for primary use by players of the fencer profession.[1]

Following the release of Publish 25's New Game Enhancements on November 15, 2005, fencers and weaponsmiths were removed,[5] however the weapon could still be constructed by players of the newly created munitions trader profession. The profession prerequisite for the weapon was also removed. The weapon could be constructed using a number of different components and resources, including steel and polymer. Although it was typically considered a kinetic-based weapon, some looted versions of the sword were curiously characterized as energy weapons.[1]

In the 2005 expansion pack Star Wars Galaxies: Trials of Obi-Wan, a variant of the RSF Sword could be looted from a non-player character named OR-5 in the Decrepit Droid Factory during the course of the Champions of Mustafar quest. The weapon was named "OR-5's Sword."[3] With the release of Chapter 7: A Collection of Heroes on November 1, 2007, a collection system was added as a type of mini-game.[6] One such collection, titled Rare Melee Weapons Mark II, required players to discover and collect 16 different melee weapons scattered throughout the galaxy. OR-5's Sword was one of the weapons included as part of this collection, and it could be found by players in the cantina of Nym's Stronghold on the planet Lok.[1] Although the player could choose not to complete the quests or collections associated with OR-5's Sword, this article assumes 100% game completion.[1][3]
