"I just received a comm from Rafe's Gambit. Stormtroopers are searching every ship."
Crys Taanzer, Navigator of the Uhumele, informs Captain Schurk-Heren of the report from Rafe's Gambit[src]

Rafe's Gambit was a starship that became grounded on the planet New Plympto in 19 BBY. It fled the planet after its crew was led to believe Imperial forces had been ordered to destroy the ship.

History

The starship Rafe's Gambit was active in 19 BBY at which time it was on the planet New Plympto. While on New Plympto, the ship landed in the spaceport in an area known as Cadgel Meadows, but while there, forces of the Galactic Empire grounded all ships in the port including Rafe's Gambit. During the wait for clearance for departure, the crew of the ship discovered that Imperial stormtroopers had begun searching each ship in the port, a fact they then contacted the crew[1] of the Maka-Eekai L4000 transport[2] Uhumele by comm to inform them of.[1]

The crew of the Uhumele, also grounded in the port and not wanting to be searched, then had one of their number steal an Imperial V-wing and begin firing on other ships in port, sending out a message that the Imperials had orders to destroy all vessels grounded there. This resulted in all grounded ships in the port, including Rafe's Gambit, taking off and fleeing the faked Imperial attack.[1]

Rafe's Gambit was first mentioned in the second issue of the Star Wars: Dark Times comic book series as part of the The Path to Nowhere arc. The issue was written by Randy Stradley under the name Mick Harrison and was released in 2004.
