For other uses, see Rakata (disambiguation).

Rakata Prime was an astronomical object located in the grid area G-11[2] of the galaxy's Unknown Regions.[1] Tryki, a former Zabrak pirate, was once arrested for attempting to board a First Order cruiser near it, and her starship was destroyed as a result.[3] The celestial object shared its name with the mystical antiquities known as Rakatan wraith boxes.[4]

Behind the scenesEdit

Rakata Prime was first depicted on a map of the galaxy[5] created for Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary,[6] a reference book for the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, both released on December 18, 2015.[7][8] The aforementioned map was revealed prior to the book's release, however, through an article by the Empire magazine on November 26, 2015.[5] The Lucasfilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo, author of The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, stated via Twitter that the location Rakata Prime labeled on the map was conceived as a planet.[9]

Rakata Prime was originally created for the Star Wars Legends continuity, and first appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic as the "Unknown World." The planet was the location of an ancient race known as the Rakata, beings who once ruled the ancient Infinite Empire and built a superweapon called the Star Forge.[10] The 2005 reference book The New Essential Chronology, written by Daniel Wallace, introduced the name Rakata Prime,[11] while the 2006 novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, written by Drew Karpyshyn, introduced the name Lehon.[12]
