"Today, I'm excited to share with you that Jon and Dave are concurrently developing two new spinoff series exclusively for Disney+: one, The Rangers of the New Republic, and the other featuring fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano. Set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, these interconnected shows, along with future stories, will excite new audiences, embrace our most passionate fans, and will culminate in a climactic story event."
―President Kathleen Kennedy announces Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic during Disney Investor Day 2020[3]

Rangers of the New Republic is a forthcoming live-action television series. It was announced on December 10, 2020, and it will be executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. As of November 2021, no scripts had been written, and the series might be absorbed into future episodes of the "next iteration" of The Mandalorian.

Set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, this new live-action series from executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event.[1]

Development[]

In February of 2020, Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted at an earnings call that spinoff series featuring characters from The Mandalorian were in development.[4] It was announced that Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic was one of those series by Lucasfilm Ltd. President Kathleen Kennedy during a Disney Investor Day presentation on December 10, 2020. Kennedy said that the series, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and future stories will be interconnected and "culminate in a climactic story event."[1]

In May 2021, Variety claimed that the series was currently not in active development.[5] This was confirmed in November 2021, as Kennedy said to Empire magazine that no scripts were written, and that some of what was planned for the series will be figured into future episodes of the "next iteration" of The Mandalorian.[6]

  2. StarWars.com SWCC 2019: 9 Things We Learned from The Mandalorian Panel on StarWars.com (backup link) establishes that The Mandalorian is set around five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 4 ABY. Furthermore, SWInsider.png "A Certain Point of View" – Star Wars Insider 202 dates the skirmish on Nevarro and the second rescue of Grogu—which are depicted in the The Mandalorian episodes "Chapter 7: The Reckoning" and "Chapter 16: The Rescue," respectively—to "9 ASW4," or nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY according to Galactic Atlas. Therefore, the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" through "Chapter 6: The Prisoner" must have taken place around 9 ABY, while the events of "Chapter 7: The Reckoning" through "Chapter 16: The Rescue" took place in 9 ABY. As StarWars.com Future Lucasfilm Projects Revealed on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic is set in the same time period as The Mandalorian, it must therefore also be set around 9 ABY.
