- "There's no escape now, you piece of rankweed."
- ―Rex, to Slick
"Rankweed" was a phrase used as an insult.[1] In 22 BBY,[2] the clone trooper Slick was exposed as a spy working for the Confederacy of Independent Systems, after which he tried to escape from the Republic Base on the planet Christophsis. While Clone Captain Rex chased after him,[1] he[3] referred to Slick as a "piece of rankweed."[1]
Behind the scenes[]
"Rankweed" appeared in the current Star Wars canon in "The Hidden Enemy," the sixteenth episode of the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated television series,[1] which aired on February 6, 2009.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, rankweed was a plant[4] that could be eaten.[5] It was first mentioned in the 2001 novel Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter by author Michael Reaves, where it was used as an insult.[6]
