- "It's a difficult weapon to use (the shape and weight make it unwieldy for those of my stature) but, with practice, it is a formidable and beautiful piece of weaponry."
- ―Credman
The rantok was a traditional one- or two-handed blade used by the Ka'hren people.[2]
It was a meter-and-a-half sword where the thick straight blade covered four fifths of the length, and the wooden hilt is the rest. An up-thrust crossguard was placed to each side of the hilt. On the flat side of the blade, there was a small quillion used to catch enemy blades.[2]
The Unfyr warriors used rantoks as both military and ceremonial people. Other Ka'hrens also preferred rantoks to ranged weapons. However, the introduction of blasters led to obsolescence of rantoks (except among the Unfyrs, who were devoted to their rantoks).[2]
The rantoks were resurrected during the Rebellion era when history scholar Kaltor Naklian rediscovered the Unfyr traditions and culture. Particularly Naklian found a well-preserved rantok next to the writings of prophets of Unfyr god Ni'Shaw, which he considered a sign to create the Ni'Shaw-Dak religion. Ni'Shaw-Dak followers often learned to wield rantoks.[2]
In 1 ABY,[3] a spacer working for Jabba the Hutt attacked a Valarian warehouse on Tatooine to steal a valuable rantok sword for Jabba.[4]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
