This article is about the Rebel Base on Rori. You may be looking for the Rebel Outpost on Rori.

A Rebel Base on Naboo's swamp moon of Rori was used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War.

History[]

RebelMilitaryBase

The Rebels were forced to relocate from their old base on Tatooine to avoid Imperial detection.

In 1 ABY,[1] the Empire learned of the location of the Rebel Military Base on Tatooine, forcing the Rebellion to pack up its base and move elsewhere to avoid Imperial detection. Rumor had it that they relocated to Rori,[2] the swamp moon of Naboo. Indeed, the Rebels did relocate their base to Rori, northwest of its Lake Octir. The base, just like its predecessor on Tatooine, was shaped in the form of the Alliance Starbird.[3]

The Rebel Base soon became a contested hotspot in the Galactic Civil War and Imperial and Rebel forces fought several times for the control of the base. Imperial forces managed to capture the base several times but the Rebel Alliance had always taken it back.[4]

The same year, a spacer infiltrated the base and stole an Obsidian sword.[5]

Behind the scenes[]

The Rebel Base on Rori appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[6]

The Rebel Base was added to Star Wars Galaxies during the game's first large update, the "Publish 1," released on August 13, 2003.[2] The old base on Tatooine was remodeled by the developers to appear destroyed, and a new base was put on Rori. The same graphical model for the intact base on Tatooine was used for the new base on Rori.[3][7] In game, no explanation was given for why the Rebels relocated from their base on Tatooine to the newly built one on Rori, but the patch notes offered an explanation. According to the notes, the Rebels packed up the Tatooinian base in order to avoid Imperial detection.[2]

The Rebel Base was a "Factional NPC Base". Groups of Imperial players could attack Rebel NPCs and achieve several objectives to take control of the base.[4]

Notes and references[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
