Rebel Force: Renegade is a Star Wars Legends junior novel written by Alex Wheeler. It is the third installment in the series Star Wars: Rebel Force, and it was first published in May 2009 by Scholastic.
Publisher's summary[]
Deadly assassin X-7 has infiltrated the Rebel Alliance. Trained by ruthless Commander Rezi Soresh, X-7 is the best there is: He feels nothing and sees everything. Now, he's gunning for the ultimate prize: Luke Skywalker, the pilot that destroyed the Death Star.
The seemingly clueless kid from Tatooine proves more resourceful and difficult to eliminate than X-7 could ever have imagined. Surrounded by friends and allies, and with a connection to the Force that grows stronger every day, Luke seems all but impervious to the usual tactics.
But X-7 isn't done with him yet. This time, he knows how to bring Luke down. He'll shatter the trust that holds the Rebel Alliance together—and manufacture the ultimate betrayal.
Plot summary[]
Having discovered the identity of the Death Star's destroyer, X-7 attempts to assassinate Luke Skywalker by sabotaging his swoop bike while at the Rebel base on Yavin. Luke's Force abilities allow him to escape the deadly explosion. While Luke recovers in a medical center, Princess Leia leads an investigation into the murder attempts, and X-7's carefully planted evidence points the finger of guilt toward Han Solo. Han escapes a brief incarceration, and while picking up work in the Zoma system, uncovers the truth of Tobin Elad's identity.
Luke, meanwhile, lays low on Tatooine with Leia. Revisiting his friends at Tosche Station, Luke butts heads with Jaxson, a belligerent young farmer who doesn't agree with Skywalker's ideals. The two daredevils attempt to settle their differences by racing skyhoppers through Beggar's Canyon, but end up crashing in the desert wilderness. As Luke and Jaxson work together to survive the Tatooine desert the two begin to form a bond. They also outsmart and escape the bounty hunter Bossk, who has been tasked with capturing Skywalker for Jabba the Hutt because he is a known associate of Han Solo. X-7 eventually tracks Luke to Tatooine, but his attempt to target young Skywalker is foiled by Han Solo, who arrives to rescue Luke as well as clear his name and reveal X-7's treachery. The Imperial agent escapes.
Continuity[]
Although Luke Skywalker said in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope that he would never return to Tatooine, the Expanded Universe found him coming back to the desert planet many times between Episodes IV and VI. Among the sources that showed Luke returning to Tatooine were the newspaper strip Tatooine Sojourn (1979), Marvel Comics' Star Wars #31-33 (1980), the Star Wars 3-D #1 comic from Blackthorne Publishing (1987), and Shadows of the Empire (1996).[1]
