"Red Three, four lit and ready to burn."
―Wes Janson[3]

Red Three was the call sign of the third member of Red Squadron. There were a number of starfighter squadrons with this name, and several pilots went by the call sign Red Three.

History[]

Galactic Republic[]

A Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor pilot used the call sign Red Three as a member of the Galactic Republic's Red Squadron under the command of Jedi Master Mavra Zane. While pursuing Separatist leader Shu Mai over Felucia, "Red Three" warned Zane of an enemy starfighter on her tail, and was commended by a squadron mate for precise gunnery.[1]

During the recapture of Tythe, Red Three, a member of Red Squadron under the command of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, was shot down by Separatist forces after entering the planet's atmosphere.[4]

Rebel Alliance[]

Before the Battle of Yavin, Rebel pilot Keyan Farlander flew with the Rebel Alliance's Red Squadron under the call sign Red Three during a mission to rescue Wookiee slaves. Later that year, another flying under the call sign was killed after failing to rebalance his shields from a missile strike during a mission to protect a disabled X-wing. Farlander returned the call sign in 0 BBY while flying in defense of the MC80 Home One type Star Cruiser Defiance.[5]

The pilot of the disabled X-wing, Biggs Darklighter, would go on to fly as Red Three for a mission to Commenor[6] and in the subsequent Battle of Yavin, where he was killed by Darth Vader.[2]

A pilot under the command of Red Leader Luke Skywalker was assigned the call sign during a reconnaissance mission to Kamino.[7]

In his first mission with the Rebel Alliance, Ace Azzameen flew as Red Three.[8]

After the Battle of Hoth, now-Commander Luke Skywalker led a patrol of X-wing pilots—including "Red Flight Three"—in investigating an errant Imperial Star Destroyer. "Red Flight Three" remarked that, despite the Star Destroyer's lack of response, its scanners must have already detected the Rebel craft.[9]

Sila Kott[10] piloted an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor as "Red Three" during the Battle of Endor. She was shot down above a Mon Calamari Star Cruiser by two TIE interceptors.[11]

New Republic[]

Wes Janson flew as Red Three in Red Flight under Wedge Antilles at Adumar.[3]

Condor, a member of Red Flight in the 24th Bombardment Squadron, flew with an unnamed pilot under the Red Three call sign during Operation Hammerblow[12] and at the Battle of Doornik-319.[13]

Sith Empire[]

Red Three was the call sign of an Imperial Navy pilot and member of Red Squadron, a Predator-class fighter squadron of the Imperial Coruscant Third Fleet, during the Battle of Ralltiir.[14]

Behind the scenes[]

In Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, Sila Kott responds to a command from Wedge Antilles of "Red Three, Red Two, pull in." Later in the Battle of Endor, a Y-wing pilot is called "Red Two" by Antilles, thereby suggesting that Kott is Red Three.[11] However, the Hasbro action figure set "Battle Over Endor," names Red Two as Kott's call sign,[10] and Kott's line "Got it!" is similarly attributed to Red Two in both Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays[15] and the Return of the Jedi junior novelization.[16] This article defers to Return of the Jedi itself and assumes that Kott is in fact Red Three.
