Reegesk was a Ranat thief who was lurking in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley[1] spaceport on the planet Tatooine when the local moisture farmer Luke Skywalker entered with the Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2[2] in 0 BBY.[3] The ranat was sat at a table with the Jawa[2] Het Nkik[4] and the Snivvian[2] Takeel[4] when the smuggler Han Solo shot the bounty hunter Greedo, causing the trio[2] to briefly look over before going back about their business.[5] Reegesk had brown fur, black eyes, and wore a brown robe.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Sadie Edon portrayed Reegesk[6] in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[2] The character was known as "Rat Face" or "Rodent" during production and a costume sketch by John Mollo suggested at one point the Ranat was meant to wear a face mask.[7]
In the current Star Wars canon, Reegesk was identified in a trivia contest post made by The Topps Company, Inc. on the social media accounts for the Star Wars: Card Trader app on October 8, 2020.[1] The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first used in the 1995 Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina anthology book, appearing in both the stories "Trade Wins: The Ranat's Tale" by Rebecca Moesta[8] and "Swap Meet: The Jawa's Tale" by Kevin J. Anderson.[9] The character was originally planned to be named Aceatta, but this name was never used.[7]
