The Renown was a Venator-class Star Destroyer utilized by the Galactic Republic and its naval branch, as well as the Open Circle Fleet, during the Clone Wars. The Star Destroyer was eventually stolen from the Republic by the Confederacy of Independent Systems and placed in orbit of Abafar, where it was loaded with huge amounts of rhydonium from the planet.
Description[]
Constructed for combat service by the Galactic Republic Navy, the Renown was a Venator-class Star Destroyer deployed by the Galactic Republic's Open Circle Fleet. As common with vessels of the Venator-class, the Star Destroyer was equipped with a hangar bay located along the dorsal surface of its hull, as well as an additional hangar on its ventral hull. Within the hangar bay, large enough to transport at least one Rho-class transport shuttle, possessed numerous compartments, which could store hundreds of canisters of the highly volatile Rhydonium starship fuel. Meanwhile, along the stern, the Renown was propelled by a series of eight ion drive thrusters, four located on the port side and four on the starboard side. Additionally, the Star Destroyer held the capability to travel through hyperspace, from points within the Outer Rim Territories to the Colonies regions, while the warship also possessed.[4]
History[]
At some point during the war, the Renown was stolen and appropriated by the Confederacy of Independent Systems, stationed above the planet Abafar in 20 BBY. In Abafar's atmosphere, the Star Destroyer was loaded with hundreds of canisters of Rhydonium, a highly volatile starship fuel, which was to be implemented in a plan to destroy the Republic's Valor Space station in the Carida system, the location of a strategy conference for Republic Military officials.
Towards the end of the loading mission on Abafar, the Republic special unit, designated D-Squad, boarded the Renown. Unaware of its capture by the Separatists and their plot, the squad eventually discovered its current crew of battle droids, commanded by an ST-series super tactical droid. However, shortly after the Venator arrived in the Carida system, the Republic droid squad managed to prevent its destruction of the space station, detonating the Renown at a distance.
