"If you think negotiating is the right thing to do, let's talk to her."
"The Senate's made it illegal."
"They say official meetings would only legitimize the Separatists."
―Ahsoka Tano and Padmé Amidala[src]

Following the Separatist Crisis and the outbreak of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Senate passed a law banning any contact or negotiations between Galactic Republic senators and members of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. In 21 BBY, Senator Padmé Amidala and the Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano decided to breach this law in order to meet the Separatist official Mina Bonteri, who was interested in finding a diplomatic solution to the Clone Wars. Following the bombing of Coruscant's central power distribution grid, the Republic abandoned a peace initiative with the Separatists. Tano's master, the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, later reprimanded her for breaking this law.[1]
