During the Cold War, the Resistance launched a rescue of the explorer Lor San Tekka from the Great Forveen Nebula after he was dropped into the nebula by former First Order agent Terex.[2]
Prelude[]
During 32 ABY[4] the paramilitary group known as the Resistance launched a hunt to find the explorer Lor San Tekka who had part of a holographic map that led to the missing Jedi Master Luke Skywalker who could help them defeat the Resistance's enemy, the First Order a fascist[5] military junta.[6][7]
In 34 ABY,[3] the First Order obtained Lor San Tekka themselves,[1] however the agent that captured him, Terex, deserted and gave the explorer's location to both the First Order and the Resistance, not caring who would win.[8]
The mission[]
Struggle in the nebula[]
Terex dropped San Tekka in the Great Forveen Nebula with a spacesuit. The Resistance X-wing squadron known as Black Squadron and a Resistance transport were dispatched to retrieve the explorer, while the First Order sent a light cruiser with a complement of TIE/fo space superiority fighters and TIE/sf space superiority fighters. The two forces battled as San Tekka activated his suit recorder and delivered a monologue about his story and the Force, and how he has lived long enough to know that either side could win this battle.[2]
Black Squadron's leader, Commander Poe Dameron ordered his squadmates to not let the TIEs get near the shuttle which was going to dispatch a team of Resistance troopers to acquire San Tekka. The Resistance forces we initially unable to locate San Tekka due to the static from the nebula, though Black Squadron member Jessika Pava informed her astromech droid Ivee that Terex told them the explorer's suit had a transponder. Black Squadron eliminated several TIEs as the Resistance shuttle picked up Lor San Tekka on its scanners. The shuttle deployed Resistance troopers to retrieve San Tekka. However, the shuttle was quickly destroyed by TIE fighters, sending the Resistance troops drifting off into space. Black Squadron members Temmin Wexley and Karé Kun shot down three TIEs in retaliation. The First Order then deployed four jetpack stormtroopers to bring San Tekka to the light cruiser.
A Resistance victory[]
As the stormtroopers carried San Tekka to their cruiser, Dameron deemed it too risky to fire at the stormtroopers as San Tekka could be caught in the crossfire. He instead ordered his pilots to destroy the light cruiser instead of the stormtroopers, denying the troopers of anywhere to go. Dameron informed his squadmates about a design flaw in the First Order light cruiser where the power conduit was located too close to the hull. Black Squadron exploited this weakness and launched an attack on the light cruiser. The squadron successfully hit the conduit, but the pilot Jessika Pava was shot by one the cruiser's turrets in the process. The cruiser also managed to fire a missile at Pava's X-wing starfighter before it was disabled.[2]
Before the missile hit her X-wing, Pava's astromech droid Ivee ejected from her slot in the X-wing and sacrificed herself, colliding with the missile before it hit the X-wing. The Resistance troopers then eliminated the stormtroopers and retrieved San Tekka. Dameron called in another shuttle for the troopers and San Tekka. All Resistance forces then returned to their base on D'Qar.[2]
Aftermath[]
General Leia Organa, the leader of the Resistance, was delighted to finally meet Lor San Tekka. San Tekka asked Organa how he could assist her. Leia told him that the Resistance was trying to find her brother, Luke Skywalker. San Tekka was not surprised that the Skywalkers found themselves at the heart of another war. Lor told Leia that he did not know precisely where Skywalker was, but he had his suspicions. Lor told Leia that if Leia give him a ship he could perhaps find her brother, to which she agreed. Leia told him that the Resistance had found him just in time, as the First Order was barely trying to hide their true intentions and the Resistance had already been in many battles and experienced many losses.

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary states that Poe Dameron began leading Black Squadron on missions two years before the Starkiller Incident, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 34 ABY. The mission to Ovanis was the first mission that Black Squadron undertook as stated in Poe Dameron 1. Therefore, the hunt for Lor San Tekka must have began in 32 ABY.
