During the Clone Wars, a group of clone commandos[3] rescued the Wookiee Chieftain Tarfful from captivity after he was enslaved by Trandoshan enslavers.[2]
Aftermath[]
After the Republic commando was able to rescue the leader Tarfful and return him to his people, which only served to strengthen the Wookiees' resolve to resist any invasion. Tarfful personally traveled to Coruscant to appeal to the Republic for assistance in the forthcoming conflict. Grand Master Yoda, having previously been involved in the regrettably common conflicts between Trandoshans and Wookiees, earning him the title of "Defender of the Home Tree," led the Republic forces on Kashyyyk.[4]
All Wawaatt settlements were quickly captured, except the city of Kachirho. The Republic, whose forces were stretched thin, had made the decision from the start to establish a stronghold in Kachirho, though they had also sent reinforcements to the outlying cities.[5] These forces broke through the separatist blockade on the planet and were deployed, as planned, throughout the Wawaatt Archipelago.[4] The commando groups and the Wookiees collaborated to harass the CIS forces while simultaneously gathering intelligence on their strength.[5]
