Rex's AT-TE, also known as the Modified AT-TE Walker was a modified All Terrain Tactical Enforcer that was commanded by former Clone Captain Rex. He, alongside Clone Commanders Wolffe and Gregor, retired to Seelos and modified the AT-TE. The clones spent their days relaxing in the AT-TE's interior.
Years later, Force-Sensitive Outcast Ahsoka Tano instructed the Spectres fly to Seelos to find Rex and bring him to Phoenix Cell of the Rebellion so he could help them fight against the Galactic Empire. After the walker was destroyed during a battle, Wolffe and Gregor moved into an AT-AT.
Description[]

The clones modified the main cannon into an energy rod and reel to sling for joopas.
The trio of Clone Captain Rex and Clone Commanders Wolffe and Gregor modified an All Terrain Tactical Enforcer for repurposed function in their retirement. While traveling the dusty plains of Seelos, the clones used their modified AT-TE as both a mobile home and a hunting platform.[10] The clones spent their days relaxing in the AT-TE's interior, which was stripped of some of its military hardware to make room for bunk beds and a kitchen. Meanwhile, the walker's exterior had handrails and ladders installed to make room for balconies, walkways and decks.[4] The railed walkways were adorned with lanterns and bug catchers.[10] The clones also adapted the main mass-driver cannon into a rod and reel for catching joopas, which were large worm-like creatures native to Seelos.[4] Even with the modifications, the main cannon could still fire projectiles.[3]
History[]
Tracking the lost commanders[]
- "How in all the galaxy is that droid gonna find your friend?"
"Well, I heard he was last seen in the Seelos system. You can start there." - ―Ahsoka Tano to Ezra Bridger while Sabine Wren inspected the Tactical droid head
Sometime after the decommissioning of the Clone Army[11] in 18 BBY,[12] Rex, Wolffe and Gregor retired to the dusty and remote planet Seelos,[3] an Outer Rim[13] world known for its harsh terrain and salty plains.[14] While on the planet, they modified the AT-TE.[3]

On the back balcony, Rex ordered Wolffe to ceasefire.
In 4 BBY,[8] former Jedi Padawan and Force-Sensitive Outcast Ahsoka Tano informed the Spectres of the Rebellion's Phoenix Cell that she had heard reports Rex was last seen on Seelos. Tano instructed the Spectres to head to the planet and use the head of an old T-series tactical droid to find him. After Sabine Wren repaired the head, giving it power, it scanned for a signal while simultaneously listing a set of digits over and over again: 7567. The Spectres followed the source of the signal to Rex's AT-TE, landing the Phantom in front of the walker. Rex walked out of the walker's modified sliding back door followed by Wolffe and Gregor. After Ezra Bridger asked him if the numbers '7567' meant anything to him, he replied that they were his birth number. Upon realizing the great commander they were sent to find was a clone, former Jedi Padawan Kanan Jarrus ignited his lightsaber. In response, Wolffe instinctively fired his DC-15A blaster rifle, until Rex ordered both Wolffe and Gregor to stand down. Rex reminded his clone brothers that it was the Empire, rather than the Jedi who had betrayed them. After Bridger explained that Rex's former Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano was the one who sent them to Seelos, he gained the clones trust, who in turn welcomed the Spectres onboard the walker, with the Spectres landing the Phantom on the walker's landing pad.[3]
At first Jarrus continued to completely reject the clones's offer to help the Spectres. However, Rex soon after overheard Jarrus talking to Bridger about the clones's betrayal of him and his master. Rex informed Jarrus he did not betray his Jedi, as he, Wolffe and Gregor all had their control chips removed.[3]
The Joopa and the probe[]

The Spectres talk with Gregor on one of the outside walkways.
Later, Gregor tasked Garazeb Orrelios with catching an elusive joopa; a creature big enough to feed the clones for an entire year. Orrelios was harnessed to the modified main cannon's energy rod and reel and the Lasat walked along the planet's surface while he held his bo-rifle in attack position. As Orrelios continued to walk across[3] the desert,[15] Gregor revealed to Bridger and Wren that Orrelios was the bait, further angering Jarrus with the clones. Jarrus informed Gregor there was a difference between being the hunter and bait. However, it was too late for Orrelios to escape, as the Big Bongo ambushed Orrelios and swallowed the Lasat whole.[3]
As Wolffe piloted the AT-TE and chased after the Big Bongo, Rex instructed Wren to keep her eyes on the regulator next to the main gun. If the line broke, they would lose both the Joopa and Orrelios. Meanwhile, Gregor gave both Bridger and Jarrus an electrostaff. After both Jedi sent two jolts down the line, Bridger jumped onto the each of the balcony to get a better angle for a third round but soon instructed Jarrus to lift him up. Once Wren finished fixing the regulator line, Bridger used both electrostaffs to fire one last jolt to the joopa, causing it to burst through the surface. Rex fired one shot from the main cannon, killing the giant beast.[3]
That evening, after the clones latched the Big Bongo to the side of the walker, Wren discovered a dwarf probe droid inside the Phantom. The droid opened fire on her and damaged the Phantom's engines. Jarrus chased the droid across the underside of the walker and fired his blaster until the probe was out of his blaster's range. In response, Rex fired a DC-15A blaster rifle from one of the railed balconies of the AT-TE, destroying the droid, but only after it transmitted its recordings to the Empire.[3]
The next day, the Spectres informed the clones they wanted to leave Seelos, before the Empire arrived. However, Wren reported to Jarrus that a storm was coming. Jarrus informed her that if Empire arrived before they left the surface, the storm would be the least of their problems. After the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer the Relentless arrived in the system, ISB Agent Alexsandr Kallus contacted Wolffe. The former clone commander attempted to convince Kallus the clones made a mistake and had not seen any Rebels. However, Kallus showed Wolffe and Rex the probe's recording of the Phantom on top of the AT-TE. Rex informed Kallus that he would need all his stormtroopers to beat them.[9]
The battle begins[]
Immediately after the clones' conversation with Kallus, Wren ran inside the walker, informing the Rebels that the Empire had found them. As a TIE fighter fired on the walker, the Rebels ran outside to destroy the TIE, while Wolffe got the walker moving in evasive maneuvers. On the roof of the AT-TE, Garazeb Orrelios fired a Z-6 rotary blaster cannon and Wren fired a DC-15A blaster rifle, while Jarrus and Bridger protected the Phantom by repelling blasts with their lightsabers. After Rex told them they were wasting ammo, he gave Gregor a rocket launcher. The retired clone commander fired one rocket, which destroyed the TIE.[9]
When Rex walked over to the mass-driver cannon, Bridger apologized for being in the clone's seat. Instead of telling the Padawan to move, Rex informed Bridger the traverse controls were on his left, while the elevation was on his right. After Wren finished preparing the Phantom, Bridger insisted they could not leave the clones stranded on the AT-TE. However, before they could make any other decisions, they heard clanking of movement in the distance. Wolffe pointed in the horizon at three All Terrain Armored Transports.[9]
Rex used a pair of macrobinoculars to study the opposing walkers. After reporting the AT-ATs had reinforced armor plating, heavy cannons and antipersonnel blasters, Rex instructed Wolffe to change the AT-TE's direction, so they could fight the upcoming battle on his terms. He then told Gregor to drop the Joopa so the walker could move quicker. Gregor let out a whine, then pressed the button on the control panel, dropping the Big Bongo.[9]
After the AT-TE turned around, Kallus informed his pilots that the clones could not outrun them. He instructed his walkers to fire at will on the AT-TE. Wren reported that the Phantom was in good enough form to fly. However, Rex retorted it was too late as the AT-ATs were already on top of them. Bridger agreed, and added on that the walkers would shoot them down. Therefore, the clones continued their current trajectory and walked into the storm. Rex informed the Spectres they would all be blind, except for Jarrus and Bridger as they were Jedi. Jarrus reluctantly agreed and ordered everyone inside the AT-TE.[9]

As the AT-TE walked through storm, Bridger said that they would not be able to hide in forever. Wren informed them that despite the AT-ATs being practically impervious to blasters, they had one weak spot: the neck. Gregor added on that one well-placed shot from the main gun should destroy the opposing walker. Meanwhile, Kallus ordered his AT-ATs to turn 30 degrees left, in hopes of flanking the AT-TE.[9]
Shortly afterwards, Jarrus instructed Wolffe to stop the AT-TE, while Kallus confused on why his forces had not found the AT-TE, ordered his walkers to perform the pincer maneuver. Simultaneously, Jarrus ordered Wolffe to circle left, in double time, before making a full stop. The AT-TE was surrounded by the opposing AT-ATs. However, that worked to the clones and Spectres' advantage, as being in the middle of the Empire's walkers enabled them to get their shot. Gregor offered to take the shot, but Jarrus countered, instructing Bridger to take the shot. Bridger wanted Jarrus to shoot the cannon, but Rex agreed with Jarrus. He told Bridger they needed one Jedi manning the cannon, while the other stayed on the interior to lead them out of their current dilemma. Rex then told Wren to spot Bridger. The clone then tossed Bridger his helmet and told the young Jedi to hang on tight.[9]
After Bridger moved the main cannon to around point five, he reported that the targeting scope was useless. Jarrus reminded Bridger he was not going to see the exact position with his eyes, but the walker was there. Trusting himself, Bridger removed Rex's helmet and with his eyes closed, fired the cannon, destroying the neck of the AT-AT in front of them. The neck exploded, causing the walker to collapse. The clones took advantage of the opening, and Wolffe moved the AT-TE past their fallen opponent. However, in response, Kallus ordered his forces to focus their fire on the energy burst.[9]
As the AT-TE exited the storm, Rex congratulated Bridger on his shot, then ordered him to get the Phantom moving as that was their only chance to escape. Jarrus reminded Bridger they had to bring Rex's intel back to the Rebellion. Before stepping onto the Phantom, Bridger told Jarrus the other part of their mission was to bring Rex back with them and they could not abandon the clones. In response, Rex told Bridger the clones were not being abandoned. Rather, they were covering the Spectres' escape. As Bridger stepped into the Phantom, Rex hopped onto the main cannon and told Bridger they were soldiers, and this is what they were born to do.[9]
The final stand[]
- "Kanan, you know better than anyone. They won't give up. This fight is gonna be their last."
- ―Ezra Bridger to Kanan Jarrus as the Phantom flew away from the AT-TE
As the Phantom flew away from the AT-TE, Rex ordered Wolffe to turn them around, confronting the remaining two AT-ATs. Rex knew the battle could be their end, but they would at least go down like a clone should. They opened fire and charged at the opposing AT-ATs. Meanwhile, Bridger reminded Jarrus that he knew better than anyone that the clones would not give up and this fight would be their last.[9]
As Wolffe continued to move the AT-TE towards the Empire, Kallus ordered his pilots to intensify their forward firepower, slowing the AT-TE down. After Wolffe informed Rex and Gregor he was going for all four of the AT-AT's legs, the Imperial Agent remarked the clones had lost their minds, and the clones quickly found themselves outflanked. At the same time, Jarrus told Bridger, Wren and Orrelios he had his problems with clones, but he did not want them to die.[9]

Rex's AT-TE makes it final stand against the larger AT-AT.
As Rex closed his eyes, expecting a warrior's demise, the Phantom fired on the AT-AT's flank, with Jarrus, Bridger and Orrelios jumping onto the roof of the second AT-AT's cockpit. The Jedi used their lightsabers to cut a hole in the roof, with all three Rebels jumping inside the Empire's walker as Rex remarked it was just like the old days. The Spectres fired their commandeered AT-AT on Kallus's walker, while Rex fired on the walker's neck, causing the walker to collapse. In response, Kallus ordered his pilots to evacuate to their speeders.[9]
Aftermath[]
The clones happily celebrated their victory, with Rex remarking they lived to see another day. Gregor replied that they at least did when a Jedi was leading them. The three clones turned from the remains of their destroyed home and saluted Jarrus. Rex then agreed to join the Rebellion and left Seelos with the Spectres on the Ghost. Rex reunited with Tano on a CR90 corvette, where he thanked the Spectres and informed Tano he would not have survived without their assistance.[9]
Wolffe and Gregor remained on Seelos,[16] and they repurposed the commandeered AT-AT into their new mobile home and headquarters. The clones named the walker "Joopa Base."[17] Over time, they also repurposed parts of Rex's AT-TE in order to modify their new home to include a landing pad.[18]
Behind the scenes[]
Rex's AT-TE first appeared in "The Lost Commanders," the third episode of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels.[3] It was first referred to as "Rex's AT-TE" in the 2019 reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition,[19] while the StarWars.com Databank entry for the walker confirmed it was also known as the "Modified AT-TE Walker."[10]
