Rikknits were originally mentioned in "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Nosaurians," a Star Wars Legends article written by Daniel Wallace and Craig Robert Carey and published in Star Wars Gamer 9 in 2002. Their first mention in canon was in the novel Adventures in Wild Space: The Escape, which was written by Cavan Scott and released in 2016.
