The Rim Faction was one of two split political factions that was active within the Galactic Republic's Senate prior to the inception of the Separatist Crisis, which was organized by the Separatist Alliance. Its members advocated rights for individual star systems and diametrically opposed the ideals of the Core Faction, the second split faction, by voting against centralized power and tax-funded programs.[1]
The Rim Faction argued that the Republic's government institutions on[1] its capital planet[2] Coruscant did not understand the best interests of planets such as Ryloth. During the Separatist Crisis, several members of the faction had seceded from the Republic and its senate to the Separatist Alliance, which eventually led to the outbreak of the Clone Wars between the two governments.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The Rim Faction was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying product series.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Rim Faction was introduced in the 2001 novel Cloak of Deception by James Luceno.[3] It was subsequently identified by name in Luceno's 2012 novel Darth Plagueis.[4]
