The Rite of Commencement was a powerful Sith ritual used in the creation of Sith holocrons. The Rite of Commencement trapped the creator's cognitive essence, or the "gatekeeper" into the capstone of the holocron. With the capstone successfully imbued with the cognitive essence, the creator could proceed in completing the construction of their holocron.
