On May 3, 2024, Rocket Racing received its first time-limited event based around Star Wars as part of a larger collaboration between the franchise and Fortnite. Rocket Racing gameplay

Rocket Racing is a free-to-play arcade racer. To play Rocket Racing, players can choose between ranked and unranked matches. Within a single match, up to twelve players will be put on a track and compete against each other. Tracks are divided into three difficulties, including Novice, Advanced, and Expert tracks. While players can select their preferred tracks for unranked matches, random tracks will be selected based on players' skill level and rank progression for ranked matches. Aside from the two competitive racing modes,[2] Speed Run was a mode that prioritized time over position. The goal is to finish a single lap of a given track in the shortest time possible.[6]

Players can also customize cars. While some customization options can be earned for free by completing related quests, most cosmetic items are locked behind microtransaction. Running its operation within the Fortnite ecosystem, various cosmetic items can be purchased directly using V-Bucks[2] or through the Battle Pass.[7] With the cross-game ownership featured on Fortnite and Rocket League, some cosmetic items are transferable between the two games.[2]

During the Star Wars event in 2024, two sets of themed quests were added for a limited time; a main quest that spanned across the digital platform Fortnite and another quest in celebration of Star Wars Day. A Star Wars-themed Trail cosmetic item was rewarded for completing the former, while two Octane decals based on Anakin Skywalker's Podracer and Darth Maul were rewarded for completing the latter. In the Item Shop, a wheel based on Darth Maul and a bundle of car body and wheel based on Din Djarin called Beskar, which also featured various styles based on other Mandalorians, such as Boba Fett, Bo-Katan Kryze, The Armorer, and Sabine Wren, were added for purchase.[9]

On December 2, 2023,[10] Rocket Racing, along with LEGO Fortnite Odyssey and Fortnite Festival, was first officially revealed in Fortnite's live event, The Big Bang, giving players a brief gameplay showcase through scripted segments.[11] Rocket Racing was developed by Psyonix[2] using Unreal Engine[3] and published by Epic Games within Fortnite. It was then released on December 8, 2023, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Android, Amazon Luna, and NVIDIA GeForce NOW[2] with the rating of "Everyone" by the ESRB.[4]

On May 3, 2024, a massive collaboration between Fortnite and Star Wars started, in which Rocket Racing participated. The first batch of event quests was released, while the rest was released on May 7. The event then lasted until May 20, 2024, as planned.[9] Later on October 12 of the same year, it was announced that Rocket Racing would no longer receive any themed updates following the release of v31.40 of the game.[12]
