On the planet Horain, a battle raged on between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Captain Rex was in need of assistance as the battle droids closed in. At the last second, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived to save him. Kenobi and Rex cut through the attacking droids as they prepared to make their way to the Republic Evacuation Point. A Droideka was about to shot Kenobi but Rex jumped in front of the Jedi and took the blaster bolts instead. Kenobi destroy the other droids but one of the blaster bolts deflected off his lightsaber and hit a battle droid in the processor, causing it to malfunction. The droid was confused with what was going on and why the battle droids were attacking Rex and Kenobi. The droid didn't think it was fair and started to take out his fellow battle droids. Rex gave B1-0516 the nickname, "Bats" and the droid officially joined them.
In order to get past the enemy, Bats lied to his fellow B1-series battle droids and told them that Kenobi and Rex were his prisoners. Bats then opened fire and defeated the battle droids while Kenobi and Rex escaped. But Bats was captured by the CIS who was going to take him for analysis. Rex and Kenobi then formulated a plan to save the droid.
At a CIS building, a T-series tactical droid, ordered that Bats was to not be destroyed. Instead the battle droid was to be reprogrammed to his basic program and put back on the battlefield. Bats refused and destroyed the battle droid next to him. He then getting ready to fight the other droids when a armored assault tank broke through and into the building. A battle droid commander was sent to investigate but he was destroyed by Kenobi who grabbed Bats and completed his escape.
At the Republic Evacuation Point, Kenobi, Rex, and Bats arrived in the tank which caught Jedi General Anakin Skywalker off guard. Bats introduced himself to everyone and Rex started to like the battle droid as much as Kenobi did.
In "Roger Roger," Obi-Wan Kenobi mentions returning to the Resolute, which was destroyed in the Clone Wars episode "Nightsisters." This implies that the story is set before that episode. However, the clone troopers in the comic are depicted with Phase II clone trooper armor. Phase II armor was not introduced until the episode "Water War," which is chronologically set after "Nightsisters."

Notes and references
- "Roger Roger" takes place during the Clone Wars at some point after the introduction of Phase II clone trooper armor, which was introduced by the events of "Water War." Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the events of "Water War" to 20 BBY and the end of the war to 19 BBY, meaning that "Roger Roger" must take place at some point between these two years.
