"The Empire is in disarray. That's obvious by the sheer number of splinter factions—we aren't fighting one enemy, but several dozen. Some are isolated by happenstance: Moff Royen's fleet is cut off from support near the Red Hand Cluster."
―Caern Adan, to Hera Syndulla and Alphabet Squadron[1]

Royen was an individual who served as a moff in the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. After the death of Emperor Palpatine at the Battle of Endor[1] in 4 ABY,[2] Royen's fleet was cut off from Imperial support near the Red Hand Cluster and, as such, became a de facto Imperial splinter faction. Caern Adan, an agent in the New Republic's Intelligence branch, mentioned the isolation of Royan's fleet during an address to General Hera Syndulla and the New Republic's Alphabet Squadron.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Royen was mentioned in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, the first installment of Alexander Freed's Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.[1]
