"Captain."
"Yes, sir?"
"Tell them we wish to board at once."
―Qui-Gon Jinn and Maoi Madakor before boarding the Saak'ak — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

The Saak'ak was a modified Lucrehulk-class LH-3210 cargo freighter that was part of the private fleet of the Trade Federation and served as the Federation's flagship during the Invasion of Naboo.[4] Commanded by Captain Daultay Dofine, the freighter was visited by Galactic Republic ambassadors, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, who were sent to negotiate with the Federation Viceroy, Nute Gunray, about ceasing their blockade to resume trade with the planet Naboo. However, the negotiations did not work and the Jedi were forced to escape to the planet's surface.[2][5]

History[]

Negotiations[]

"With all due respect, the ambassadors for the Supreme Chancellor wish to board immediately."
"Yes, of course. As you know, our blockade is perfectly legal, and we'd be happy to receive the ambassadors."
―Maoi Madakor and Nute Gunray — (audio) Listen (file info)[2]

During the blockade of Naboo, Gunray and another Trade Federation official, Rune Haako were onboard the Saak'ak when it was visited by Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who were ambassadors representing the Galactic Republic's Supreme Chancellor Valorum. Their ship, the Radiant VII docked in one of the Saak'ak's hangars and the Jedi were led to a conference room. Gunray was informed that the ambassadors were Jedi and contacted their superior, the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who ordered that the Jedi be killed. Gunray obliged by using the Saak'ak's hangar guns to destroy the Radiant VII and flooded the conference room with poison gas, along with sending a squad of security battle droids to make sure the Jedi were dead.[2]

Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi fight battle droids in the Saak'ak's hallways.

The Jedi emerged from the conference room unscathed, however, and quickly cut down the security droids, before making their way to the bridge. Gunray ordered that the bridge be sealed off and demanded droidekas be dispatched. He and Haako cowered in fear as the Jedi destroyed numerous battle droids and Jinn began trying to cut a hole in the bridge's doors with his lightsaber. Gunray ordered the blast doors to be closed, which only briefly set back Jinn, as he plunged his lightsaber back into the door, causing it to heat up and begin to fall apart.[2]

Before he could fully destroy the door, however, the droidekas arrived and kept the Jedi at bay, who decided to retreat, causing the droidekas to accidentally blow open the blast doors in the process. The Jedi went into a ventilation shaft and made their way to another hangar, where they saw battle droids being loaded onto Multi-Troop Transports and realized that the Trade Federation was planning to fully invade Naboo. The two stowed away on separate transports in order to flee to the surface and rescue Naboo's Queen Amidala. The Saak'ak eventually launched its ships and began invading the planet.[2]

Holding up the blockade[]

As the Trade Federation was capturing Naboo's capital city, Theed, the Jedi were able to free Queen Amidala, her handmaidens, and Royal Naboo Security Forces Head, Quarsh Panaka. They boarded the Queen's starship and attempted to flee the planet. As they flew towards the blockade, the Saak'ak began firing at them, and managed to disable the ship's shield generator. They were able to repair the shield generator, however, and directly flew past the Saak'ak while they made their escape.[2]

Switching command[]

Some time after Theed was captured, the Saak'ak and the rest of the Federation fleet left the Naboo system, with the ship's command and crew transferred to the Lucrehulk-class Battleship, the Vuutun Palaa.[2]
