"The Saber of Darth Krall."
"Hmmmm."
"What do you mean—"hmmm"?"
"I thought it would be spikier."
―Dooku and Sifo-Dyas, regarding the Saber of Darth Krall[src]

The Saber of Darth Krall was a saber owned by the Sith Lord Darth Krall.[1] In 88 BBY,[2] Jedi Initiates Dooku and Sifo-Dyas snuck into the Bogan Collection, a forbidden vault of the Jedi Archives of the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant, and Dooku saw the Sith's saber. Sifo-Dyas, however, was not impressed by it and said that he thought it would have been spikier.[1] Around 231 BBY,[3] in a Force vision experienced by Jedi Knight Keeve Trennis, Darth Krall used a red lightsaber.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

The Saber of Darth Krall appeared in a flashback sequence in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, written by Cavan Scott[1] and published on April 30, 2019.[5] The spelling of the item was confirmed by the audio drama's script release[6] on October 1, 2019.[5]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.6 Dooku: Jedi Lost
  2. 2.0 2.1 According to Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, Dooku was eighty years old at the time of the First Battle of Geonosis. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places the battle in 22 BBY, thus dating Dooku's birth to 102 BBY. The script of Dooku: Jedi Lost states that Dooku was fourteen years old when he sneaked into the Bogan Collection and saw the Saber of Darth Krall, placing the event in 88 BBY.
  3. The Star Wars Book dates the launch of the Starlight Beacon to 232 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 232 BBY in the calendar system used by Star Wars: Galactic Atlas. As The High Republic: Light of the Jedi depicts the Beacon's launch, the novel's events must take place around that year. The novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm takes place almost a year after the events of Light of the Jedi, so the events of The Rising Storm must take place around 231 BBY. The Heart of the Drengir arc of the High Republic comic series, in which the lightsaber appears, picks up several months after the previous arc, and ends with the attack on Valo that occurs in The Rising Storm; thus, Heart of the Drengir takes place concurrently to The Rising Storm and in approximately the same year.
