The sabriquet was a type of musical wind instrument. It consisted of a thin cylindrical body with a long thin mouth piece extending from one end. Four perforated metal tabs extended from one side of the body with a fifth tab on the opposite side. In the year 32 BBY, a Bith musician playing as part of a band in the stands of the Mos Espa Grand Arena on the planet Tatooine used a sabriquet during the Boonta Eve Classic podrace.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
A sabriquet first appeared as a prop in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The prop was not named in the film, but received identification in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia. The name of the instrument originated from the 1999 Star Wars Legends reference book Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, which was written by David West Reynolds.
