Plot summary[]
Lost in the jungle[]
The episode opens with a man named Nazy crawling through a rain-soaked jungle under the cover of night. Meanwhile, Cassian Andor drinks rainwater trickling from an opening inside a shelter while his rebel captors including Flek, Gerdis and Bayso argue while waiting for a comrade to return from the jungle. Meanwhile, Nazy continues crawling. His companion Rowd asks if he has seen anything. A woman says that he should have been back by now. Nazy says there is nothing here.
Rowk asks what he did with Rika's body, prompting Gedis and Plug to respond with confusion. Flek thinks it is a trap while Pleg says they have to be out somewhere. Meanwhile, Nazy recovers a pair of goggles while a female rebel recovers a boot from the jungle floor. Amidst the confusion, a gunfight breaks out with Snee telling them not to shoot. Gerdis ushers Nazy inside. Nazy tells his comrades that he has found Rika's goggle. The female rebel tells her comrades that she has recovered Crab's boot with his foot still inside. Andor advises them to conserve rainwater in a tarp on the roof.
The Ghorman project[]
Elsewhere on Coruscant, Lieutenant Dedra Meero tells Major Lio Partagaz that she does not want the Ghorman project, having thought about it all night. Partagaz describes it as a humbling experience to be reminded of one's place in the chain of command. He reminds her that Orson Krennic offered the job and that the matter is settled. When Meero says she wants to focus on Axis, Partagaz counters that she has spend two years working on it with little results. Meero responds that she is getting closer to uncovering their identity but Partagaz does not believe that Axis exists. He suggests capturing enemies first and making them famous after.
Partagaz reassures her that the Ghorman project is not a demotion but tells her to play the part. He tells her that she will get to run Ghorman as she sees fit and that Krennic is only interested in results. Partagaz tells her that Ghorman is a gift that she can take and win. The two walk into the Imperial Security Bureau headquarters.
Chandrilan intrigue[]
At the Mothma Estate on Chandrila, Luthen Rael supervises the servants as they prepare for a feast. Kleya Marki asks about their next plan. Rael explains that their plan is to wait till Davo Sculdun reconsiders. Marki tells Rael that they have heard nothing. She says that she tried to reach out to Bix Caleen via transmitter but did not receive anything. She deduces that Mina-Rau has been shut down due to a "temporary reception outage" for Imperial inspection. Rael asks what type of inspection. Marki says she does not know and says that she needs to be in the gallery. Marki says that she has found a ride.
Shortly later, Perrin Fertha enters the room with his wife Mon Mothma, who has had her breakfast separately without him. Fertha is curious about Rael's surprise. Mothma eyes the object which is wrapped in a white cloth and asks if it is a Chandi Merle. Fertha confirms it is the case and quips it was worth more than the house. Fertha says that they have two more nights to go. Fertha asks about Mothma's so-called boyfriend Tay Kolma. Mothma denies that she is in a relationship with Kolma but Fertha does not believe her. Fertha tells Mothma that he was taken home drunk last night and warns her to be careful.
Mina-Rau inspection[]
Elsewhere on Mina-Rau, Kellen asks Aneth if they remembered the juice. He says that he will load it when he gets back. He exits a shop and walks through a field of golden wheat to meet with Brasso. He says that the Imperials should finish their inspection by today. When Caleen asks how many are there, Kellen says that Aneth estimated there were 40 Imperials on the ground but that they do not know what forces the Imperials have in the air. When Caleen asks what if the Imperials come their way, Kellen replies that the Empire knows that they need their help and that not everyone is legal.
Kellen says that the Imperials conducted the last audit ten years ago and that nobody is happy. Brasso says that Talia thinks the Imperials will let them slide but Caleen disagrees. When Wilmon Paak asks Kellen what if the Imperials ask where they came from, he promises not to reveal their identities. When Caleen suggests moving ahead, Kellen warns that the Empire does not take kindly to people trying to evade them. When Kellen asks about Andor, Caleen says he will be there for the audit. After Kellen leaves, she turns to face a machine.
Vignettes[]
Elsewhere on the jungle world, the rebel band members including Plug and Snur argue about eating moldy rations. Andor drinks water from an improvised bowl. When one of the rebels suggests giving Andor one of the moldy rations, he observes that the perimeter has gone quiet and suggests that they set up a perimeter. Flek says he was about to do that. Outside, another faction of the rebel band force themselves to eat an unpleasant tasting coconut-like plant.
At the Imperial Bureau of Standards on Coruscant, Syril Karn gives some a new employee a pep talk, telling them about how he discovered an irregularity in Varnesian fuel shipments and exposed a cabal of "corrupt" purchasing agents who were stealing Imperial supplies in four sectors. The young recruit looks nervous but Karn reassures him that there is a future here for those who dare.
The Imperial inspectors[]
Meanwhile on Mina-Rau, Paak chats with a girl named Beela in a wheat field. The two express feelings for each other with Paak saying that her mother Aneth has been watching them. Paak promises to come back for Beela. Beela exacts a promise from Paak to say goodbye when he leaves. Shorty later, Imperial inspectors approach in a pair of landspeeders and visit the Mina-Rau General Store. One of the officers asks for a cold drink. Brasso slips into the store, taking care to avoid the attention of the Imperial inspectors.
Meanwhile, another Imperial officer named Krole visits Bix Caleen, who says she is repairing the bushings in the new silo. When Krole asks if she has seen the new silos, Caleen claims she was based in the Council Six Hundred a month ago. Krole thinks they were not worth the costs and says they will know next harvest. Krole observes that life here is quiet and asks if mechanics get to move around. He asks if she has been to the Rau, describing it as a small city. Caleen says she has been there. Krole says that Rau has changed and flirts with her, asking if she would like to join him.
Caleen lies that she has a husband. Krole backs down and asks if her husband is here. Caleen claims that her husband is offworld. When he asks if her husband is a mechanic, she says he is a good one. Krole then asks if her husband worries about her and explains that the Imperials have shut down all communications offworld as part of the audit security process. Shortly later, Brasso arrives and addresses Caleen through her pseudonym "Zala." When Krole asks Brasso his council, Brasso says 207 and claims that they live an itinerant lifestyle. Krole wishes "Zala" all the best and leaves.
The mountain hike[]
On Chandrila, Fertha goes on a mountain hike with Davo Sculdun. They are followed by Leida Mothma and her betrothed Stekan Sculdun, several servants and Senator Mothma and Vel Sartha. Mothma recounts memories of a rainy wedding hike with her husband. Mothma briefs Sartha about the ritual. Sartha confides that she has not received word from her lover Cinta Kaz and expresses frustration with Rael for keeping her in the dark. The group continue up the mountain.
Caught in the middle[]
Elsewhere, Andor waits with his quarrelsome captors, who are worried about their comrade Plug. One of the rebels say that their faction has the pilot while the others just have a starship that they don't know how to fly. One of the rebels thinks that Plug will trade them for food. Another rebel asks Andor if there is any food on the TIE Avenger and he says no. Gerdis says they have the food while Flek reveals that he ate his meal bar. Shortly later, Plug returns with news that the rival rebel band is trying to turn the TIE Avenger around and aim its laser cannons at them.
The rival rebel band used ropes and vines to pull the TIE Avenger towards the other rebel faction's starship. Watching the commotion, Andor thinks that if the rival band is lucky, they would have moved the ship five meters by midnight, adding that they will be close. In response to Andor's advice, his rebel captors attack the rival band with blasters, driving them from the TIE Avenger.
Courtship[]
In Coruscant, Dedra Meero is joined by Syril Karn in their apartment. Karn has returned from shopping. The two are in relationship but Karn asks Meero to pretend that she is not back. She touches his chin with her hand and says that they cannot delay the matter. Karn suggests delaying it till tomorrow.
Signs of trouble[]
On Chandrila, Mothma approaches Tay Kolma, telling him that she has been looking for him. Kolma is impressed by the wedding festivities and says that nobody has seen this for a long time. Luthen Rael watches the two with concern. Kolma settle down to business with Mothma and discuss the Foundation. He claims that her financial irregularities have been smoothed over and Sculdon is pleased. Mothma is silent and does not make eye contact. Kolma confides that rebel activity has hurt his investments and says that he feels undervalued. Mothma struggles to hide her frustration and says that she wish that Kolma told her sooner. She promises to resolve the matter over the weekend and then walks away from Kolma. Rael tracks Mothma as she exits the hall in an upset state.
Meanwhile on Mina-Rau, Kellen tells Brasso and his friends that the Imperials are leaving tomorrow. B2EMO moves on his rollers. When Caleen asks where they are going, Kellen thinks that the Imperial inspectors are visiting Council Three Hundred next. Caleen is anxious. Kellen adds that the Imperials have been arresting those who have been running away. Talia offers to cover for Caleen and her friends since she is legal. Caleen wants to thank Kellen but he says don't thank him yet. Caleen and Brasso look at each other while B23MO wheels around.
On Coruscant, Marki enters the Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest gallery. She walks to a desk holding a Naboo headcrest and a Kel Dor breathing mask. She pulls out a control hatch and pulls out a key. She then goes into a chamber and activates a hidden listening machine.
Perrin Fertha's toast[]
Back on Chandrila, Mothma speaks with Rael about her problem with Kolma. When he asks if Kolma had a number, Mothma explains that he has some bad investments. Rael is concerned that Kolma might go over to Sculdon but Mothma says he can't. Mothma wants to leave to listen to Fertha's speech but Rael insists on resolving unfinished business. Mothma says she will set up a meeting with Kolma nextweek on Coruscant to find a number.
Fertha enters the hall to give a speech while Mothma sits beside Leida and a female Chandrilan noble. Fertha gives a speech, thanking the esteemed guests and issuing the Chandrila greeting Sagrona Teema. He offers a toast to their health. Turning his attention to Leida and Stekan, he offers them advice, warning them that they will encounter pain, trouble and disagreement in their lives and marriage. His hope is for them to reach past this "constant cloud of sadness" and find pleasure, gaiety and amusement in life. He describes them as the music buried beneath all the noise.
He advises them to seek joy, telling them to listen for it and to be mindful of how fleeting and delicate it can be. He encourages them to seek the memory of laughter and good company. Mothma and Rael watch intently. Stekan and Leida smile as Fertha raises his glass.
Andor's escape[]
On the jungle planet, Gerdis and Bardi trade barbs. Gerdis asks Bardi if his plan is to shoot the pilot. Bardi's followers sit by a campfire. Meanwhile on Mina-Rau, Caleen sits by a table and looks at the night sky anxiously. Back on the jungle planet, Gerdis and his followers exit the starship, leaving one of their number Flek (individual) to guard Andor. The two factions gather outside for a confrontation. The two factions lay down their arms. Andor and his guard watch as the two leaders parley. Gerdis and Bardi agree to settle the dispute via a game of Five Hands, based on Roski rules. Flek explains to Andor that the loser will submit to the winner.
Gerdis and Bardi pick their seconds. Andor uses his boot to move a box away from the door. The four belligerents begin clapping and clasping their hands. Meanwhile, Andor manages to retrieve a blaster and disarms Flek. While the belligerents are having their match, Andor binds Flek and retrieves a breathing unit from an overhead compartment. While the rebels are preoccupied, he flees into the jungle. The match is interrupted by a tusked Yavinian doodar, which rampages through the rebel camp.
Andor flees towards the TIE Avenger. A gagged Flek manages to free himself and tells the others that the pilot has escaped. Andor shoots one of the rebels guarding the TIE Avenger. The rebels open fire on the TIE Avenger but are unable to stop Andor from escaping. Andor flies the TIE Avenger above the jungle canopy and past two Massassi temples towards the gas giant of Yavin, revealing that the jungle planet was Yavin 4.
