"How much of this was you, Salli? Way I figure it, Mon Mothma got kidnapped at an awfully convenient time, and you knew I'd worked with those Scarabi in the past. Maybe that assassin droid too. I wouldn't put any of it past you."
"Oh, Lando—All that matters is the result. I'm a zealous advocate for my clients. Let's leave it at that."
―Lando Calrissian and Salli Georgio[2]

Salli Georgio was a human female lawyer active during the Imperial Era. Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, she represented the bounty hunter Dengar when he went on trial in the Imperial Court of Criminal Justice on Samaria for the vehicular mayhem that he caused. However, the case was lost and Dengar was fined fifty thousand credits and sent to the Orgonium mines for sixty days of hard labor. Lando Calrissian then called Georgio in for a favor she owed to represent him in a trial against the Rebel Alliance, to which she agreed.

Biography[]

Representing Dengar[]

"You are the worst lawyer in the whole damn galaxy! When I get out, you better watch your back, Salli Georgio!"
―Dengar, to Salli Georgio[1]

Between 3 ABY or 4 ABY,[4] during the reign of the Galactic Empire; Salli Georgio was in the Imperial Court of Criminal Justice on Samaria, representing the bounty hunter Dengar, who was on trial for stealing a speeder and causing vehicular mayhem while intoxicated. As the trial went on, Georgio put out an argument against the judge that a Jedi used their mind trick ability to control Dengar, which made him cause all of the immense mayhem. In response, the judge mentioned Dengar's known sobriquet as "Dengar the Demolisher" and questioned the validity of Georgio's whole argument.[1]

While represented by Georgio, Dengar lost his case against the Imperial Court of Criminal Justice.

With a slight grin on her face, Georgio argued that the judge could not disprove her claims; however, the judge stated that the legal position of the Empire was that the Jedi Order and the Jedi themselves no longer exist, ruling Georgio's version of events as impossible. Closing the trial, the judge fined Dengar fifty thousand credits and sentenced him to the Orgonium mines for sixty days of hard labor. Moments before Dengar's departure to the mines, he and Georgio argued over how the trial went. Dengar attempted to threaten and approach Georgio, though he was held back by the bailiff and sent to the mines. As Dengar was dragged away,[1] Georgio received a call from Lando Calrissian who wanted to call in a favor she owed as his lawyer in a trail against the Rebel Alliance, to which she agreed.[5]

Owed favor[]

Let the trial commence[]

"What a thrill. My career has taken me to some fascinating places, but I never imagined I'd be standing on the hangar deck of the Rebel Alliance Flagship."
―Salli Georgio[5]

The Trial of Lando Calrissian took place within the flagship of the Rebel Alliance Home One.

Proceeding with the call, Calrissian explained that the trial was going to be a military tribunal judged by a general, an admiral, and Mon Mothma; with the latter subject surprising Georgio. However, Calrissian added that Mothma was not going to appear in person, as she was on a funding mission on the planet Uveron. Georgio and her paralegal droid Three-Ell were then picked up from Samaria by the Wookiee Chewbacca aboard the Millennium Falcon and arrived at the flagship of the Rebel Alliance Home One twelve hours later. Upon leaving the Millennium Falcon, Georgio and Three-Ell were greeted by General Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker as Chewbacca carried their belongings. Organa informed Georgio that the trial would commence tomorrow morning and had prepared the guests their private quarters. Additionally, Organa offered the advocate a chance to meet with her client, though Georgio denied, having understood Calrissian's situation.[5]

The next day, before the the trial commence; Mothma, along with Admiral Gial Ackbar and General Crix Madine, were present as judges of the trial. A select few audiences were also present to witness the trial, including Organa and Skywalker. As Mothma was about to start the trial, Georgio briefly interrupted to request if Three-Ell could record the proceedings and was granted. Mothma then introduced Calrissian's case, with Madine introducing Captain Darrien Muskray who acted as the Alliance's legal represantative and Georgio as Calrissian's advocate to bring forward arguments for the court to hear. Ackbar added that they may operate in accordance to the outlined procedures in the Corellian code of military justice, such as calling witnesses and cross examine. Georgio stood and claimed that she was unfamiliar with the Corellian code of military justice, requesting a short break to review the legal texts. However, Madine denied the request and accused her of attempting to waste the court's time. Muskray was then ordered to present his case against Calrissian.[5]

Timed opportunity[]

"The trick here isn't to make them think you're innocent. The trick is to convince them they don't care that you're guilty."
―Salli Georgio, to Lando Calrissian[5]

Proceeding with the trial, Muskray called the talky droid as a witness. The captain added that he had checked that the memory banks of the droid was not wiped or altered for the last century as a pretrial preparation, therefore verifying the validity of its testimony. Answering Muskray's first question, the talky droid mentioned the Trawak code and its importance to the Rebel Alliance communications, which Muskray then submitted to the trial as a crucial intelligence asset. As the talky droid continued, it claimed that Calrissian sold the droid to the Hutt crime lord[5] Jabba[6] as a translator droid.[5]
