Samm was a human rebel who resided on the planet Ghorman during the Imperial Era.[1] A member of the Ghorman Front, he accidentally killed the Axis network member Cinta Kaz during a mission.[2]

Biography[]

Samm was a Ghorman human who was a part of the Ghorman Front, a rebel group in opposition to the Galactic Empire. In 3 BBY, Samm secretly listened on a conversation between the Imperial Bureau of Standards member Syril Karn and his mother, Eedy Karn, alongside fellow rebel Enza Rylanz. Samm believed that Syril was conflicted and sympathetic to their cause. Enza's father, Carro Rylanz, arrived and decided to approve a rebel mission before Syril was transferred away. Samm, whilst working as a vendor, approached Karn, who at first rebuffed him. Samm stated he knew who Karn was and that he was not a tourist, he handed him a spider figurine with a hidden message inside. He then invited Karn to a secret meeting before retreating. Samm attended the Ghorman town hall meeting, and when Lezine began to cause an upset, he approached Karn. He thanked Karn for accepting the invitation and asked his opinion, Karn stated he admired the passion although he did not understand their language well enough. Samm explained the Tarkin Massacre to Karn and how the elderly woman that was speaking had lost her family in it. The pair are joined by Enza and then her partner Dilan, and Samm teased Enza about the possibility of Karn being an imperial spy. Unbeknownst to them, Karn was an imperial spy planted to track rebel insurgency.[1] Samm briefed the newly arrived Axis network rebel agent Cassian Jeron Andor on the Imperial convoys and how they operated.[3]

Rebel agents Vel Sartha and Cinta Kaz were sent to oversee the rebel operation when Andor refused. Sartha and Kaz met with the Front, including Samm, and instructed them to only bring what they needed. Samm stated they needed weapons and to send a message to the Imperials, but both Rylanz and Sartha refuted this. When Sartha began to finish her speech, she pointedly looked at Samm and fellow rebel Dreena as she stated those who could not follow orders should leave immediately. Dreena asked if she and Samm should leave, but both of them chose to submit to Sartha and Kaz's rules.[2]

Samm operated a hover-scooter during the mission and kept watch. Male pedestrian Lezine attempted to walk past Samm, who unsuccessfully tried to persuade him to turn around. Samm then drew a blaster, despite Sartha's orders, and threatened Lezine. Lezine believed he was bluffing and the two men tussled, before Samm accidentally discharged his blaster, hitting Kaz in the chest and killing her instantly. Dreena and Sartha witnessed this, and Sartha became distraught at the death of her lover. As they escaped in the getaway vehicle, Samm began to cry, which drew the attention of the others. Sartha demanded Samm faced her, but he was initially too distraught. He repeatedly apologized before beginning to cry again, which continued to anger Sartha. Sartha stated that she did not have to tell him to remember what happened as he would have to live with the consequences and carry the life of Kaz with him for the rest of his life. She then praised Kaz as the hero Samm aspired to be, and how she would be mourned in ways Samm could not understand. Samm continued to apologize and cry, but Sartha simply rebuked him and said he did not deserve to cry for her.[2]

One year later in 2 BBY, Samm was one of the Ghorman Front members who participated in the Ghorman Massacre, alongside Leeza, during which the latter was killed by the enemy fire. Samm managed to escape from the carnage by driving an Imperial transport, which he rammed into K-2SO, as the KX security droid was chasing the Axis Network operatives Cassian Andor and Wilmon Paak. He and Paak later helped Andor lift K-2SO's remains onto the vehicle as Andor drove the vehicle away, before returning to the Ghorman Front Headquarters, where Dreena was using a radio to send a distress call for help.[4]

Personality and traits[]

Samm was a passionate Ghor freedom fighter who searched for allies sympathetic to the cause of the Ghorman Front. His cover selling handcrafted souvenir spiders to tourists in Palmo Plaza gave him a firsthand look at the Empire’s growing presence in his home city.[5]
