Sanctuary was an astronomical object located in[1] the Slice portion of[2] the Outer Rim Territories.[1] By 2 BBY,[3] it was a safe world of an organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire secretly led by Senator Mon Mothma. Such status was noted on a map of the galaxy that marked the various rebel safe worlds, starfighter hubs at level five or higher, rebel operations headquarters, and shadow planets with deep space caches. First sent to Mothma[1] in 2 BBY,[3] the map eventually fell into the hands of archivist Hendri Underholt, who put it into their compilation of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Sanctuary was introduced into the current Star Wars canon in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Rebel Files, written by Daniel Wallace.[1] Originating in Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Sanctuary was first mentioned in the first edition of West End Games' The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, written by Paul Murphy and released in 1990 for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[4]
